Every year as my husband and I embark on our annual spring ritual of going to our favorite nurseries as he is an avid gardener, I make a mad dash for the spice plants to check out what I can plant from my windowsill and this year my patio, as I am a proud "kitchen gardener." Choosing the right place to grow your herbs is very important as they need a good four to six hours of sunlight every day. Also, another idea when planting your herbs is to buy a wide brim pot and plant all of your herbs in one pot-not only does it save on space but as the different herbs grow in the pot it makes for a beautiful green medley to look at all season! Also, instead of watering several plants you can simply water the one-which makes it super efficient as well. Last year, I successfully planted basil, rosemary, and oregano and we used it for everything from teas and soups to salads and stews throughout the summer, winter and fall season. This year I plan on growing at least a dozen more including: turmeric, chamomile, mint, thyme , bay leaves, arugula, lemon grass, oregano, lavender, dill, rosemary and sage. I truly love growing herbs as it allows for healthier eating and you will see the savings on your grocery bill. If you plan on growing herbs this year, please let me know what herbs you are thinking of- I would love to hear from you!
